Invermoriston

St Columba is said to have defied the local druids by drinking from the well upon which they had placed a curse. The Glenmoriston Heritage group have built a viewing platform for this site.

The village expanded from 1813 with a new road system opening up, making access easier with the construction of one of Thomas Telford’s famous bridges, which was built over the River Moriston to help improve Highland communications. The bridge was started in 1805 and was completed 1813.

The River Moriston descends rapidly from a point just above Telford's bridge, but the Falls are best viewed from the old Summer House slightly downriver from the modern road bridge.

Invermoriston is just 6 miles north along the A82 from Fort Augustus and 26 miles from The Capital of the Highlands Inverness and 36 miles to Fort William. If you take the A887 from the village you can travel through the beautiful Glenmoriston and onwards to the Skye Bridge [which is only one hour by car] onto the famous Isle of Skye.

The centrally located Glenmoriston Millennium Hall, next to the main car park, offers a variety of activities and attractions throughout the year and houses the local toilets with the public telephone and bus stop close by.
